Golf is Lame
Share
Golf comes with a lot of mixed reviews from many different people. If you’re anything like the younger me, you probably think golf is boring and lame. I mean, who would want to watch slow, dull golf on TV when you could watch a fast, energetic game like Football (my first love) or something like UFC (my second love)—which is high-level problem-solving with dire consequences? Those are real sports! I mean, how can you call a game a sport when you have to wear slacks and a collared shirt?
(Boy, how my thoughts have changed.)
My brother would golf all the time, watch it on TV, take lessons, and even got his son into it. He’d try to talk to me about the sport he loved, but I never gave it any of my time—I was busy training to be the next UFC champion and working on my Jiu-Jitsu black belt.
(FYI: I didn’t even come close, but that’s a story for another day.)
I don’t like to admit it, but…I was wrong, and my brother was right.
(Hope he doesn’t read this.)
Sure, I enjoyed the occasional putt-putt round, rare golf outing, or a couple of hours at the driving range. But those times were more about drinking and hanging out with friends—I couldn’t have cared less about the sport. I gave it no mind at all. Honestly, I can’t even remember how well or how badly I swung a club back then. I didn’t care about being good—I just cared about my next drink and what we were doing afterward.
Now that I do care, I don’t remember golf being this hard.
I’m now a 35-year-old man (or man-child, if you ask my wife), and my view of golf could not be more different. I’ve had a few mentors who, over time, helped change my opinion about this beautiful, wonderful, stressful, blood-pressure-raising game we call Golf—and I couldn’t be happier.
This is just where we tee off. Find out where that first shot landed in the next blog (probably in the woods).
Your Golf Pal,
Brett
Don’t forget—a “Bad Bogey” is still better than work.
